The formula

Project area is rectangle (L×W) or circle (π(d/2)²). Effective paver area includes joints: (paver length + joint) × (paver width + joint). Paver count = area ÷ effective paver area, then apply waste.

A = L×W or π(d/2)² · aₚ = (l+j)(w+j) · Count = A÷aₚ · Order = ceil(Count×(1+waste%))

Worked example

  1. Patio 6 m × 4 m → area = 24 m²
  2. Paver 20 cm × 10 cm, joint 3 mm → effective paver area ≈ 0.0209 m²
  3. Base pavers ≈ 24 ÷ 0.0209 ≈ 1148.3; with 8% waste → ceil(1239.2) = 1240

How paver quantity is calculated

The calculator estimates pieces by dividing project area by effective paver footprint, then adds waste and optional pack rounding.

Joint width changes paver count

Wider joints increase effective coverage per paver and can reduce piece count slightly. Use the real joint spec from installation design.

Waste depends on pattern and cuts
